Hi Ellis,

Reading this left a big smile on my face. Thanks. I identify with a lot of what you're saying from my experience with Nora. We just spent 8 days without Mama and I feel like my development as a father was on hyperdrive.

The shift in attitude that you made from punishment/ rejection, to persistent positive-ness is like a shift I recently made, maybe not so profound, but it feels good to take these steps.

I'm learning a lot about Nora's communication and realize that she is proficient, creative, and says a lot. But she doesn't use any real words except Papa and Mama, often only uses expressions and body language, and everything is laced with telepathic vibes. As you probably know it is VERY difficult to interpret.

Anyway, after spending a while dismissing a lot of the things I didn't understand because I was busy, stressed, or unfocused, I decided to take a different approach. Now I always try to assume that Nora is actually saying something whether I understand it or not. I always acknowledge that she is communicating and at the very least I can guess at what she's saying and respond in some positive way. For example, when we're pressed for time and she is pointing at something, before I would say, "no, Nora we have to go, you can't have that." Now I would say something like, "Oh yeah sweetie, that's someone else's shoes! Did you play with him today in the sandbox?"

These epiphanies seem small in a way, but make a big difference because kids as young as ours are so impressionable. Every day I am overwhelmed by how amazing Nora is and I reaffirm that I want to do everything I can to make her life as good as it can be.

Thanks for sharing and being a fellow dad with whom I can bounce these things off of.

Comment on A Critique of Jyotish by Jiri Neuzil

Thank you for this great and courageous article. Let me share some reflections here, because you have come to same results as my practice of astrology in last five years and I feel that this topic should be discussed as much as possible. I have studied both Western and Jyotish for 12 years, gradually shifting from Western to Vedic - maybe hoping that Vedic could be some "more ancient", "more spiritual", "more accurate" "better" etc. form of astrology. After five years of in-depth research of ayanamsha matter, I have concluded that sidereal zodiac is SIMPLY WRONG in "any" of its form and finally switched "back" to tropical zodiac. But I still guess that sidereal zodiac should be used for delineations of nakshatras (it is quite logical). As for the signs, tropical zodiac is the clear winner. I also think that Jyotish techniques like rashi/graha aspects, argalas, Jaimini karakas, yogas etc. are in perfect harmony with the rest of tropical techniques described by Western astrology. The special part are nakshatra techniques which are not mentioned to be tropical at all. Of course, the correct ayanamsha is still the matter here...
I think that the good side of Indian astrological tradition was conservation of certain part of knowledge which was not available elsewhere during the time. The bad side of it was constant repetition of errors in calculation which were not discovered and questioned by practitioners of astrology. For this reason we have strange mixture of great astrological ideas and conceptions of Vedic astrology (which seems to be some "lost" part of, let us say, the Global astrology) working well in their idea, but not well in actual practice as it is common today. So I think that mere correction of mode of calculation could resolve the "contradictions" between Western and Vedic which are still held nowadays. The nice example is "Tajika" branch of Vedic astrology where common ground is felt very strongly.
As for Uranus, Neptune etc. I think that there is not to say that we should not use them in Jyotish. Its tradition was maybe concentrated on different things in astrology and due to gradually shaken background by calculation errors there was no reason to build an "update" of Jyotish based on these planets, rather make a religion from Jyotish instead. Perhaps these planets are some special case which is more in line with "psychological" thinking of Western astrology. In my opinion, the dasha systems like Vimshottari seems to be logically based WITHOUT these planets and I think that rashi-based dashas work well in tropical zodiac. The nakshatra-based dashas seems to be more intricate and there are many controversies about their calculations evein in Jyotish tradition (year length, starting point, ecliptical/equatorial coordinates etc.) which could be maybe cleared in the future by research.
So I agree with you in most points and try to share this experience - I think that switching to tropical zodiac is the best way to make any progress in (re)understanding Jyotish and I could it recommend it to any serious student of astrology, no matter if Western or Vedic. I think that in Jyotish field today, the best teaching material is available from Ernst Wilhelm - he speaks clearly about these matters and he is a pioneer in using tropical zodiac in Vedic astrology. Let us hope that there will be enough evidence to finally set up the most correct way to calculate "Vedic" chart.

Oh, wow, Ellis...I'm reading that thinking, "Man, Rowen chose well...very intentionally..." He chose you and Keesha as parents because just LOOK at this fear that he's come in with and needs to work out, and he needed to find the most aware, loving, grounded folks he could to do this work with...wow. wow. wow.

Great insights. I really like the ideas about how we think of the reactions of frightened animals...interesting little perspective shift.

Dude. Keep up the good work.
xoxo, maggie
